January 20, 2026 – Following the announcement that Ahold Delhaize is extending its partnership with The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN) in September, we are pleased to share the new projects planned for 2026 as part of our partnership with GFN.

As our great local brands have worked closely with food banks in their own communities for many years, our partnership with GFN helps amplify their work at Group level while also creating opportunities for shared learning. Together with GFN, we are helping reduce food waste and increase access to surplus food. This work helps ensure more people can access food both now and in the future, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable food system. Tackling food insecurity and food waste is a core part of our Healthy Communities and Planet strategic priority, which recognizes that the well-being of people and the health of the planet are deeply interconnected.

This year, Ahold Delhaize’s collaboration with GFN has evolved to include stronger involvement from our local brands. By working together with both our brands and GFN, we identified the community needs that shaped a new selection of initiatives for 2026, building on the projects supported in the past year. This shared approach helps ensure the projects reflect local priorities and deliver meaningful benefits for the communities our brands serve.

New projects for 2026
In 2026, Ahold Delhaize and GFN, in collaboration with our local brands, will support these initiatives in markets where our brands operate, including the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and the United States.

Czech Republic: Czech Federation of Food Banks
We will support improvements in storage processes, increased storage capacity, and distribution to people in need in one of the poorest regions. These changes will help the Czech food bank network process larger volumes of donations more efficiently and increase their visibility and brand awareness in the community.

The Netherlands: Voedselbanken Nederland
In the Netherlands, our support focuses on improving cooling capacity for fruit and vegetable distribution. This will help increase the availability of fresh produce for people utilizing food banks.

Indonesia: SOS Indonesia
We will support food rescue and distribution activities in Jakarta, where SOS Indonesia works with hotels and multinational companies to recover surplus food and redistribute it safely.

United States: Feeding America and regional food banks
Support in the United States will be coordinated through Feeding America’s Community Response Fund to reach several regional food banks, including Vermont Food Bank, Good Shepherd Food Bank, Food Bank for NYC, Interfaith Food Shuttle, Capital Area Food Bank and Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. This support comes at a particularly important moment as communities across the United States are facing higher demand due to the increasing pressure on federal nutrition assistance programs. Temporary interruptions to government operations and reduced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have meant more families are turning to local food banks for help. By supporting Feeding America and these regional partners, we are helping strengthen distribution capacity and sustain essential food access services during a time of heightened need.

Supporting and strengthening food banks through GFN initiatives
Alongside the country specific projects, Ahold Delhaize will continue to support GFN’s broader work to strengthen and sustain food banks globally. This includes:

  • data and insights that help food banks improve operations
  • virtual learning and knowledge sharing opportunities
  • technical support for food recovery
  • employee engagement opportunities across our brands
  • agricultural recovery work that helps increase the efficient rescue of surplus produce

These initiatives help ensure that food banks everywhere – not only those in our operating markets – can serve more people with more nutritious food.
